Teen MyCash Account

The smart start to learning to manage your own money

The letter P for PTSB carved out in a slate of black marble

Our Teen MyCash Account gives 12 to 18 year olds the freedom to securely manage your own money. Parents can also have the peace of mind that your young adult is well on their way to learning how to become financially self-sufficient.

  • No fees for maintaining the account.
  • No day-to-day transaction charges like Direct Debit fees, fees for cash lodgements or withdrawing cash, or fees for using your Debit Card for purchases in Euro.
  • Earn 0.50% AER variable interest on balances up to €20,000. A lower rate of interest applies to the entire balance if your balance is €20,000 or over.

Other transaction charges may apply. These charges include: ATM usage outside the Eurozone, using a Debit Card for purchases in a foreign currency or Debit Card usage outside the Eurozone.

Referral item fees or unpaid item fees

A referral item fee of €5 per item (up to a maximum of €15 a day) will be charged if a Standing Order, Direct Debit or cheque is presented for payment and is paid, but there isn’t enough money in your account to meet the debit at the time.

An unpaid item fee of €10 will be applied to your Teen MyCash Account for all unpaid Direct Debits, Standing Orders or cheques.

Please see our full Terms and conditions and the Personal and Business Banking Charges booklet for more details.

The Teen MyCash Account is a variable rate account and the interest rate may change from time to time.

AER stands for Annual Equivalent Rate. When calculating AER, it is assumed that the customer holds the account for a year and interest rate remains constant.

What happens when I turn 18?

On your 18th birthday your MyCash Account will transfer to a personal Current Account available from PTSB at that time and you’ll be subject to the conditions which are relevant at that time to such an account.

If you are in full time second level or third level education at this time, you may be eligible for our Student Current Account. If you are interested, all you need to do is drop into your local PTSB branch with written proof of your course details from an approved institution, as recognised by the Central Applications Office (CAO), to show you are in full time attendance and we can change your account type for you.

If you are in full time second level you can provide a letter signed by your principal on headed paper confirming your attendance.

You will need to do update your account to a Student account before your 18th birthday.

What do I need?

There’s just a few documents we’ll need from you to keep things official:

  • ID verification, like your passport, driver’s licence or learners permit (with photo).
  • Address verification like a letter from your school on headed paper or branded with the school stamp and signed by the school Principal/Vice Principal/Teacher/School Secretary confirming your identity, nationality, home address and that you are a student in the school (must be dated within six months of application).
  • Proof of PPSN / Tax Reference Number. Why do we need this?
  • If you’re under 16 you’ll need consent from a parent or guardian to open a Teen MyCash Account and be issued with a Contactless Visa Debit Card.

See required documents for more details.

Please note: Any documents provided must be in your own name. If you are unable to provide any of the above documents, please contact a member of staff in your local branch.
