Visa Secure

Visa Secure is an additional layer of security that protects you when making purchases with participating online retailers and makes online shopping more secure.

You don't need to register separately for Visa Secure. As long as your mobile number is up to date with PTSB, you're covered. To update your phone number, give us a call on 0818 50 24 24 or +353 1 212 4101 (from abroad). Lines are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

 

If you have registered a device for online banking and you have enabled push notifications, this facility will also be used for your online shopping transactions. Learn more about registerng your device.

 

 

How Visa Secure works

When you make a purchase at a participating online retailer, you may be asked to verify the payment. How this works depends on whether you use the PTSB app

  • PTSB app customers: You'll receive a push notification on your registered device. Open the notification and enter 3 digits from your 6 digit Personal Access Number (PAN) to approve the payment. 
  • Non-app customers: You'll be sent a One Time Passcode (OTP) by text to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP along with 3 digits from your 6-digit Personal Access Number (PAN) on the Visa Secure screen to complete the payment.

What is a One Time Passcode (OTP)?

A One Time Passcode (OTP) is a unique 6-digit code sent to your registered mobile number by text message (SMS) from sender PTSB. Each code is valid for 5 minutes. 

 

I didn't receive a One Time Passcode - what should I do? 

Check that your mobile number is up to date with us. If it is up to date and you're still not receiving any codes, call us on 0818 50 24 24 or +353 1 212 4101 (from abroad). Lines are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), and from 10am to 2pm, Saturday and Sunday.

 

How do I check what number PTSB has for me? 

This depend on which online banking service you use: 

  • Open24 customers: Log into Open24 Online Banking and navigate to "Personal Settings" to view your registered mobile number. 
  • Business24 customers: Log into Business24 Online Banking and select your account profile name beside the logout button.

 

How can I update my mobile number?

For security purposes, you cannot update your registered mobile number online. Give us a call on 0818 50 24 24 or +353 1 212 4101 and one of our dedicated agents will assist you in updating your mobile number. Lines are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), and from 10am to 2pm, Saturday and Sunday.
