Card frozen? What to do next

Once you’ve frozen your card, there are a few important steps to take to ensure the security of your accounts.

 

Step 1: Keep an eye on suspicious transactions

Check your transactions over the coming days, as they may not appear instantly. Stay vigilant and monitor your account and credit cards regularly for any signs of unauthorised activity. Familiarise yourself with the most common unrecognised transaction types and merchant's names

If you notice any suspicious transactions while your card is frozen, call us immediately on 1800 687 687 or +353 1 212 4290 (from abroad). Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your call provider may charge you for this call.

Alternatively, visit the Visaeurope website to find the free phone number for the country that you are in.

 

Step 2: Make sure your account information is up-to-date

Depending on the circumstances surrounding the card freeze, make sure your account information and contact details are up-to-date by logging into your account on Open24 Online Banking.

Take the time to learn about common scamsphishing techniques, and identity theft prevention. Being informed can help you recognise and avoid potential threats in the future. 

 

Freeze/Unfreeze Card Questions and Answers

 
Can I still use my card once it has been frozen?

While your card is frozen, it will affect both your physical and digital card. It can no longer be used for in-store, online transactions, or ATM transactions. However, existing subscriptions and refunds will still be processed. Your standing orders, monthly bills and direct debits will be charged to your account as usual.

 
I froze my Joint Account Visa Debit Card, will the other account owner still be able to use their card?

Putting a freeze on your Joint Account Debit Card will not freeze the account from being used and the joint owner of the account can still use their card to make transactions.

 
I froze my Credit Card, will the secondary cardholder on my account still be able to use their card?

As a primary cardholder, if you freeze your Credit Card which has a secondary cardholder, both cards will be frozen.

 
What if I still can’t find my card?

If you believe your card has been lost or stolen, you can replace your Debit Card in the PTSB App.

For Credit Cards, call us immediately on 1800 687 687 or +353 1 212 4290 (from abroad) to cancel your card and order a replacement. Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your call provider may charge you for this call.

 
Important information

A replacement card will take 5 to 7 working days. 

There is a €5.00 charge for a replacement Visa Debit Card and Visa Credit Card due to being lost/stolen.

 
How long will it take to freeze or unfreeze my card?
