Loans and Overdrafts

We have to comply with the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing) Act 2021 (as amended), so if you are:

  • A new customer of PTSB or
  • An existing customer whose personal identification documents are not up to date

We will need you to provide us with some documentation.

Please note that not all applications are the same and additional information may be required in certain circumstances. We’ll let you know as soon as possible if we require further information.

Acceptable proof of identification

Branch Applications

If applying through a branch, you can use any one of the following:

  • Current valid passport
  • Current valid Irish, UK, or European driver’s licence
  • Irish Government Travel Document

Online, Phone or Postal Applications

If you're not able to provide an original at your local branch and are sending in documents by post, you must provide clean (i.e. legible) photocopies of 2 forms of identification or 1 certified copy of identification from the list above.

Documents can be certified by An Garda Síochána/Police Officer, Practicing Chartered and Certified Public Accountants, Public Notaries/Practicing Solicitors, Embassy/Consular Staff, a Regulated Financial or Credit Institution, Justice of the Peace, Commissioner of Oaths, Medical Professional (Doctor).

Please note that all of the above must be in your own name.

Acceptable proof of address

Branch Applications

If applying through a branch, you can use any one of the following:

  • A utility bill (dated within the last 6 months) for example, gas, electricity or phone
  • A bank or building society statement issued within the last 6 months
  • Your notification of Determination of Tax Credits for the current year
  • Your original household/health or motor insurance documents (must be less than 12 months old)

Online, Phone or Postal Applications

If you are not able to provide an original at your local branch and you are sending in documents by post, you must provide originals of 2 of the documents listed above. 

Please note that all of the above must be in your own name and address.

Existing customers: Please ensure you quote your account number and 6 digit sorting code number with documents being submitted.

Proof of PPSN (Personal Public Service Number)

We are obliged under the Credit Reporting Act 2013 to collect and verify your PPSN. PTSB will collect your PPSN for all credit applications of €500 or greater.

You will need to provide any one of the following documents as proof of your PPSN during your application:

  • Payslip
  • Notice of Tax Credits, Tax Assessment, Employment Detail Summary (P60), Statement of Liability (P21) or P45)
  • Medical Card / Drug Payment Scheme Card or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) where the full PPSN is clearly visible.
  • Correspondence from the Department of Social Protection or the Revenue Commission, addressed to you, clearly indicating your PPSN.

Please note: We cannot accept your Public Services Card as proof of PPSN.

Proof of Income

  • 3 months of bank statements from your main personal current account. In certain circumstance 2 recent payslips may also be required. If your main account is with PTSB you won’t need to provide this
  • If you’re self-employed, you’ll also need to provide Audited Accounts or an Accountant’s Certificate, and 3 months of statements from your main business account
  • If you’re a non-EU/EEA citizen you will also need to provide some other documents, but we’ll bring you through this when you’re applying for your loan

Employment permanency

If you have been in your current job for less than 12 months, we’ll need a letter from your employer confirming permanency.

Proof of immigration status

If you are not a EU citizen applying for an term loan, you’ll need to provide proof of your immigration status, which means you’ll need to prove you are legally entitled to reside and work in the Republic of Ireland, by providing a Stamp 4, 5 or 6.
